Cheetah attacks Botswana President Ian Khama

A cheetah attack nearly cost Botswana President Ian Khama his eye, members of his presidential office said.

Government spokesman Jeff Ramsey said Khama was attacked last week by a cheetah at the Botswana Defense Force barracks as the animal was being fed in its pen, the Sunday Standard reported Monday.

The cheetah jumped up at Khama, catching him and his bodyguard by surprise, and clawed the president on the face, the spokesman said

Ramsay described the incident as "a freak accident, but not an attack."

He said the cheetah attacked the president because it was excited.

Khama received a couple of stitches, the spokesman said.

"The bodyguard was present but like I already said, this was just a freak accident," Ramsay said in an email to the Sunday Standard, explaining that Khama occasionally checks on the animals.

Cousin stabs brother to death after a horrible dream

EBONYI state police command, Monday, confirmed the killing of Chukwudalu Omege, 15, by his cousin, Uchechukwu Nwankwo, 25, after he allegedly dreamed that the deceased was among those plotting to take his life

It was gathered that the suspect who immediately took a knife and stabbed his victim as he woke up from a horrible dream, resides at No. 7 Ibe Street, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital
Briefing journalists at the Police Headquarters Abakaliki, the Ebonyi Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sylvester Igbo said the police got to know about the unfortunate incident when the murder case was reported at the Ekumenyi Police station by a member of the deceased family (name withheld).

According to him: “A report was made at the Ekumenyi Police Station that one Uchechukwu Nwankwo aged 25 years stabbed his cousin, one Chukwudalu Omege aged 15 and the victim was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki,(FETHA). Unfortunately, while the victim was receiving treatment at the FETHA, he died at the early hours of Saturday”.

“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime. According to him, he was in a dream when he saw three men, and in that dream it was revealed to him that the three men were hatching plans to eliminate him. When he woke up, he prayed against it and went back to sleep.

Again, he had another dream where two other people were revealed to him that was planning to kill him also”.

“When he looked closely in a bid to identify the people planning to kill him, he identified his brother, (the deceased) and immediately he woke up, picked a machete and went after the cousin, while the cousin was trying to raise alarm and run for his dear life, he went after him and killed him with the machete”.

The Police Public Relations Officer explained that the Ekumenyi Division was still investigating the matter adding that at the end of the investigation, the command would charge those indicted for the murder to court.

Meanwhile, the Ebonyi state Police command has also warned those still using tinted glasses and unregistered vehicles in the state to desist from doing so. He added that those who use improvised or artificially fit tinted glasses on their vehicle should dismantle them forthwith while owners of factory fitted tinted glass vehicle should write to the command for permit.

Igbo noted that the Commissioner of Police Moses Ndagi had constituted a task force for the arrest of those contravening the law and warned that no payment was required for the issuance of tinted glass permit.

“Don’t be deceived and violators of this order will be prosecuted by the command”.

Keshi Ranked 5th Best Coach In Africa, 27th In The World

Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi has moved one step on world coaches ranking for the national teams for the month of April. Keshi is rated the 27th best national coach in the world and the fifth best in Africa despite his triumphant run at the last Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Keshi, who has coached in Togo and Mali, finally made an impact with the Super Eagles when he won the Nations Cup, became the second African to win the trophy as captain and a coach after Egypt’s Mahmoud El Gohary, but all that failed to give Keshi a quantum leap on the world rankings.

Spain coach Vincente Del Bosque is the world’s best coach. While Joachim Lowe of Germany, Bert van Marwijk of Holland, Oscar Taberez of Uruguay, US-born Egyptian coach, Bob Bradley, Reinaldo Rueda Ecuador, Fabio Capello Russia, Morten Olsen Denmark Claudio Cesare Prandelli Italy and Venezuela’s César Farías make the world top ten coaches.

Keshi will come face to face with the Del Bosque and Taberez at the Confederation’s Cup June in Brazil.

At the continental level, Bradley tops the top ten ranking with Michel Dussuyer (19th) of Equatorial Guinea, Zambia coach Herve Renard (24th), Egypt legend Hassan Shehata (26th), Stephen Keshi (27th), Francois Zahoui (45th), Sami Trabelsi (52nd), Alain Giresse (53rd), Kinnah Phiri (63rd), Claude Le Roy (65th) and Rabah Saadane (66th) making up the numbers.

The Football Coach World Ranking is world’s first ranking of football coaches based on actual performance. The national team coach ranking is monthly calculated on the results of 3,800 national soccer matches played over the last 48 months.

The coaches earn ranking points in those international matches that give points for FIFA’s World Ranking. Founded in the Netherlands in 2010, the Institute of Football Coaching Statistics is an independent provider of football coach performance data and statistical analysis.

Jose Mourinho is the world’s best club coach. J. Heynckes of Bayern Munich, Barca’s Tito Vilanova, Diego Simone of Athletico Madrid, Vanderlei Luxemburgo of Grêmio, Man United’s Alex Ferguson J. Klopp of Borussia Dortmund, Tite of Corinthians, Ho Go Kim of Ulsan make up the top ten.

There are no Nigerian club coaches in the world club top 400.

Angry Mob attacks PHCN Office Over Crazy Bill

An angry mob in Abaranje, Ikotun area Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, went on the rampage and attacked the staff of Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, and destroyed their property.

The attack which took place at the weekend followed what electricity consumers in the area described as the crazy electricity bills slammed on them by the PHCN workers.

P.M.NEWS learnt that the mob, mainly residents of the area, vent their anger when they stormed the administrative branch office of PHCN at Customs bus stop, Abaranje, Ikotun and attacked the PHCN staff and destroyed their property.

Items damaged include chairs, tables, electrical appliances, fridge, television, glass doors and windows and other administrative materials such as files and book records kept in the office.

The police at Ikotun division intervened and brought the situation under control before they could set the office ablaze.

A policeman identified as Mathew was severly macheted during the fracas and he is critically lying at Igando General Hospital where doctors are battling to save his life.

P.M.NEWS gathered that police made some arrests in connection with the fracas. Among those arrested include the Ikotun Igando Local government Supervisory Councillor for Works, Mr A. O. Arizona who the PHCN officials alleged to be the cause of the problem.

Also arrested was the PHCN manager, Mr William Ekpeki, Samuel Ilori a staff of PHCN and others.

They were later released on administrative bail while the investigation continued on the matter.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the residents were angry because, in spite of incessant high bills residents have been getting from PHCN, they don’t have regular supply of electricity in the area.

According to the residents, they have been complaining and nothing has been done to address the issue.

According to some residents, PHCN brings bills of between N8,000 to N25,000 every month for each household which they call estimated bills, and the bills continue to accumulate because residents could not pay.

“Most of the residents have accumulated bills to the tune of N100,000 and above. The PHCN response has been either you give them bribe or they disconnect you,” a resident revealed.

The cause of the current crisis was the recent N22,000 estimation bill given to Mr Arizona and when he didn’t pay, the PHCN workers went to his house and disconected his light.

Narrating what happened, the manager of PHCN in the area, Mr. William Ekpeki, told P.M.NEWS that his men went to his house at 32, Ogunfumi street, Okerube and disconected his light because he was owing the amount.

He alleged that Arizona came to their office with more than 20 thugs and started destroying PHCN property and attacked some of the staff who ran away to save their lives, an allegation Arizona denied.

The manager said Arizona had threatened to deal with the staff and nothing will happen and his men came and attacked PHCN staff and started destroying properties in the office before the police were contacted.

He said in the process, one of the policemen was macheted.

He regreted that an individual will bring thugs and destroy government property and behave as if he is above the law.

When P.M.NEWS contacted Arizona, he denied that he brought thugs to attack them.

He said he has been paying his bills but lately PHCN started bringing outrageous bills to him and demanding bribe as well.

He said the amount he paid in his subsequent bills did not reflect in the bills they brought to him and they went to his house when he had gone to work and disconnected his light and also demanded N2,000 from his wife before they would connect him back.

Arizona said when he went to their office to ask them why they were demanding the money and the money he paid did not reflect in his bills, they ignored him and most of the residents that had similar problem and were also in their office to complain.

He said instead of PHCN staff attending to them, they ignored them and threatened not to reconnect them until they paid the outarageous bills.

He noted that there was a sponteneous reaction from the residents that caused the commotion there. He said he was even trapped there and was rescued by the police.

Some of the residents who spoke to P.M.NEWS complained bitterly that PHCN was exploiting them through outrageous bills.

Those who spoke said the PHCN staff are heartless and they deliberately bring estimated bills in order to collect bribes from them.

“They are working for their pockets and not for government,” a resident remarked.

When P.M.NEWS visited Ikotun Police Division, the DPO, CSP Akika, was not around to comment on the matter.

Sources at the station comfirmed the incident and told our reporter that some arrests have been made and the suspects will soon be charged to court.

The issue of estimated bills which many electricity consumers said is another name for official fraud, is also causing problem in Ejigbo, Isolo, Agege, Idimu, Egeda, Oko-Oba and others. And the PHCN has not come out to explain why it slams such bills on residents in Lagos State.

"The Days When Marriages Are Sweet And Beautiful Are Over" - Empress Njamah

The actress recently spoke to The Nation's Mercy Michael, where she told her the reason why she is still single and being a car freak with 5 cars.

Here is an excerpt from the interview:

As one who is brilliant, beautiful and curvy, why are you still single?

I’m gonna say this alright; I don’t care how people take it, the days when marriages were sweet and all beautiful are no more. If you listen to how your parents got married and how those days it was sweet, it’s not like that anymore. I’ve escorted a lot of people into marriages, I won’t say I’ve escorted them out but I’ve witnessed them come out of it.So psychologically it’s not good for people and then being what we are, a lot of people think because she’s this, because she has that I don’t think I will be able to handle them. A lot of people can’t stand an industrious woman especially if she’s doing well. It’s the mentality of the people. If a man looks at me, I’m a car freak alright. I have five cars and I’m not doing it because I’m trying to show off, a lot of people don’t even know that they are my cars.

But I’m trying to be honest with you and I’m always trying to say it the way it is, not minding whatever. If a man comes and says because of blablabla, he cannot handle me, then he shouldn't bother. Every woman’s dream is to get married but it’s not just to get married but to get married to your friend. I want to marry my friend.

And have you met your friend?

I’m yet to meet my friend. If I meet my friend and I know that he is my friend, I don’t think that question should actually pop up because what am I doing if I’ve met my friend? If I’ve met my friend I will get married. And then, I’m this type of person that even if I meet my friend; I don’t want to have a fairy tale wedding.

My Parents Want me to Marry a Muslim but I’m in Love With a Christian. What Should I Do?

My boyfriend is not so rich but he’s comfortable and also a Christian and I love him very much and I know we’ll be happy together. He is ready for marriage but my parents insist I must marry a very rich Muslim guy. Even before I met my boyfriend I have been going to church because I don’t want to marry a Muslim. I also believe my happiness is more important than wealth and I also know he has a bright future. What’s your advice?

"I Have 99 Problems and Now Jay-Z Is One," - President Obama

The annual White House Correspondent's Dinner is typically a light-hearted affair, and this year's installment was no exception. The Dinner tends to serve as an opportunity for the President to show off his sense of humor and pop culture savvy, and with a President as charismatic as Barack Obama, these events tend to be ripe with entertaining moments.

While Obama obviously poked fun at himself and at those right wing media outlets who consistently have derided him throughout his two terms in office, he made sure to offer up enough hip-hop references to have the community talking for quite some time. Prior to the President stepping to the podium, the crowd in attendance was treated to DJ Khaled's "All I Do Is Win." Obama clearly enjoyed the moment, even synchronizing his hand gestures to match the chorus.

"How do you like my new entrance music?" Obama jokingly asked the audience, waiting for those assembled to sit back down before going right into the rest of the speech.

Later on, Obama had the chance to take a slick jab at Jay-Z, who caused a media frenzy with his visit to Cuba and subsequent "Open Letter." Talking about issues that he has to deal with that are out of his control, Obama said, "It's unbelievable... I have 99 problems and now Jay-Z is one of them." Interestingly enough, the President does not appear to be as concerned about Beyonce, who also went on the trip with her husband and created her own controversy at the recent inauguration by apparently lip-synching the National Anthem.

With the President entrenched in office for three more years at least, will the President continue to embrace hip-hop as openly as he did tonight, albeit in a joking manner? Is there any way Hov can offer up an appropriate response to Obama's comments? More importantly, has the President discovered that Khaled's ad-libs provide the self-confidence boost one needs to win a grueling election?

Daniel Ademinokan's Estranged Wife, Doris Simeon Finally Speaks

Here is what Stella wrote on her blog after speaking with Doris Simeon

Beautiful Actress Doris Simeon is currently the centre of attention as her Ex hubby Daniel Ademinokan has supposedly Married another controversial Actress Stella Damasus.

The news went viral went it came out and though I am still doing some fact finding,I decided to call Doris today to hear what she can tell me as regards everything that has happened. Click to continue reading.

I wanted to know if she and Stella were friends at all
I wanted to know when exactly the 'snatching' started.
I wanted to know how she felt/feels
I wanted to know why she didn't do anything to stop what had happened when it was happening.

I asked so many questions but Doris told me in a voice which sounded full of pain that at this time she just wants to concentrate on her work and forget about what has happened because ''It has already happened.......''
She kept saying ''No comment''......The fifth..

Doris stood her ground on not wanting to talk or exchange words with anyone and I respect her stand.

I told her ''Doris, you have a lot of support right now,why don't you talk, your fans want to know so much....''
Doris begged for privacy at this time and I understood and let her be.

Doris Simeon has a son with ex hubby Daniel and i guess she is trying to keep it clean for her son's sake.

When Doris and Daniel were Married I used to tell Daniel they were the best couple in town, their love was so plain to see.I don't know what went wrong.I don't know how or when Stella Damasus came into the picture and I am yet to confirm that they have indeed Married.

I don't know how or when Stella and Daniel met and started dating but I still think Doris needs to paint the real picture of what happened to help others going through similar situation and too embarrassed to talk out......those too ashamed to let anyone know.

I have not been able to confirm that there was a February wedding.

1.2M JAMB-UTME Candidates Won't Gain Admission - FG

The Federal Government on Saturday said of the 1,735,720 students that registered for this year's Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, only 520,000 will gain admission.

Addressing journalists at the Federal Government College, Suleja, Niger State, after monitoring the examination, Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufai, blamed this on the low-carrying capacity of the tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

She said, "The major challenge is a country like Nigeria having 1.7 million sitting for examination. The space we have is 520,000 for federal, states, private universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

"If one million passed, what are we going to do with the rest 500,000? We will not expand the carrying capacity without expanding the facilities.

"What are we going to do with the large number of students out there? I feel the pain. Mr. President is very much concerned. If you have students that have passed examination and they cannot have access, you can imagine their thought in the long run."

Rufai called on private firms and individuals to invest in tertiary education.

Responding to a question on the high fees charged by private universities, she said the legal department was looking into the ministry's right to challenge the fees.

Although she agreed that private investors had the right to recoup their money, the minister said government would consider legal options to regulate the situation.

The minister also denied knowledge of any White Paper recommending the scrapping of the UTME and the National Examination Council.

She said, "It has become a very controversial issue. I have made a statement before the National Assembly that the Federal Government has a white paper on this. I'm not aware that NECO and JAMB will be scrapped. If we are not aware, what are we going to make an analysis out of? Government has not taken decision on that."

Rufai further blamed improper shading of answer sheets by candidates for non-release of their results.

"If they don't shade their papers correctly, they may not have results," she added.
